productive, valuable, useful
Do you often realize that what you’ve done seems to be so small and far from you ideal ?
I do!
Working daily on operational technology and details which change rapidly often makes me thing that what i’ve done is so small, less valuable, less influential. Especially when you are working on operational technology where the most usable thing is your skills. You might be an engineer but we may say boldly, you are an operator. It’s true that there are some innovations and breakthroughs came from operational domain but often it’s less influential and the impacts are local significant.
You might have been bleeding doing and or researching something in your area of expertise but in the end often what you only feel is like, “great, it works, now what” .
Sometimes you want to do something on more fundamental thing but your current situation still prevents you. That is a challenge to your ideal when working on operational technology. You need significantly more time before you are able to touch the fundamental thing compare to when you are working on research and development area. Especially when you are living in a country where the RND culture is not yet supportive in your area of interests.
One of thing that you might do is : sharing. Sharing anything what you’ve achieved, done, solved etc might help satisfy your ideal and inner will of doing something valuable. While doing that, you might also try to do some which you consider more fundamental in other area, even though it might be far from your interest or current expertise.
*i know, i know… talk is cheap :D
